Licking our wounds so to speak, but more to come.ĪM we set sail with a brand new spinnaker, heading for Bonaire, with a minor rigging problem that caused me to rip the skin off a few fingers trying to hold the spinn sock line- as the spinn was up and flying (lesson learned, wear gloves fool- Bob did). Back to aVida for a great pasta dinner, play some cards, and drank some wine to soothe the pain of the flat tire fiasco. So in the light rain, with an audience of 20 curious locals watching closely, Bob and I changed the large tire and got back on the road in a short time. Bob had taken over the driving for the afternoon (on the left side of the road as they do here- hard to judge for Americans), and one of these sneaky rocky obstacles jumped out and gave him a flat tyre (as they spell here). We went to lunch at a preserved coffee plantation, then drove around the rugged north end of island on rough narrow roads with many obstacles. We spent the next day touring the "Spice Isle" by rental BMW SUV, nice ride! We saw the monkeys (again for us), and a monkey jumped on Karen's back to take a banana from her! We did a long muddy hike to Seven Sisters, a fairly large waterfall with a natural pool below, and on the way back some enterprising locals hand-washed our feet and shoes for us, and educated us on the wonders of Nutmeg and Mace for free- of course we tipped them well. With only a few hours of down time after MarkJ left us in Grenada, great friends Bob and Karen, with son Lucas, joined us in Grenada- the 4th visit for Bob and the 3rd for Karen.
